Comprehension Strategies Poster

Research indicates that explicitly teaching comprehension strategies is only effective in the initial instance - after that the benefit comes from using the strategies in different contexts and purposes. 

It is important that students can recognise whether they are struggling with comprehension at a word, sentence or text level and then have a variety of strategies they can draw from to support them from there. 

This simple handout lists some of the most common and effective comprehension strategies, classified into word, level or text-level support as an easy reference for students in any class.
